The Challenge: Spies, Lies & Allies

Spies, Lies & Allies is the 37th season of The Challenge. This season features 17 American contestants competing with 17 international reality stars in a spy-themed game for a share of a million dollars. This season was filmed in Croatia from April to June 2021.

Description[]

From Croatia, 17 American players battle it out against 17 international competitors in cutthroat challenges and brutal eliminations for a share of the $1 million prize.

Format[]

Each team will compete in numerous challenges, followed by elimination rounds known as "The Lair." The winners of the challenge will form the Agency and will be immune from the Lair. The rest of the house will be given 20 minutes to discuss and vote simultaneously, and as individuals, one team into the Lair. At the Lair, the Agency will vote in one male and one female, regardless of whether or not they are a pair, to compete against the nominated team. The Agency's selections will compete as a pair. The winning pair will remain in the game, and the losers will be eliminated from the game.

After eight eliminations, the game will change into a three-team competition (known as "Cells"). The winning team of the challenge will form the Agency. At nominations, the eligible players will plead their case before the Agency individually cast a secret ballot for which player of the designated gender to compete in the Lair. At the Lair, the nominated player will call out any eligible player of the same gender to compete. The winner stays while the loser is sent home. The winner will also be given the chance to Infiltrate.

In the Final Challenge, eight players (four men, four women) will compete. Winners CT & Kaycee initially won the $1,000,000 prize, but they were given the option to split their prize to the remaining finalists. They chose to split, and the prize money splits as follows:

Winners: $800,000 ($400,000 each)
Second and third place: $100,000 ($50,000 each)
Fourth place: $0

Twists[]

Team Selection: Before competing in the Opening Mission, the international players were given files on their potential American partners. Then, they will race to free the player they wanted to be partners with at the "Compromised" challenge.
Infiltration: Returning from Double Agents, the winners of the elimination round can either remain as a team, return to their original partners, or select any available player from any team to be their partner. Teams will then form based on the players remaining. During the team phase of the game, the winner in the Lair can choose to remain in their Cell or join one of the remaining teams.
Cells: During the "Diamond Dash" challenge, three new teams, or "Cells", were formed: Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire. The game turned into a team competition where the winning team would be safe from the Lair.
Night of Eliminations: An instant double elimination took place after the "Rocket Run" elimination to determine this season's finalists.
The Decision: During the Final Challenge, the winning pair won the entire prize. However, TJ offered the option of splitting their prize with the remaining players. If they chose to split, each winner will decide how much will be given to the runners-up.

Notes[]

↑ During the first few days of filming, a cast or crew member tested positive for COVID-19, causing the cast to enter a 10-day quarantine period. The entire cast returned to the game with negative tests, excluding Nam. TJ announced at the Lair that Nam unexpectedly withdrew from the game due to unknown reasons. He was replaced by Ed.
↑ Due to unknown reasons, Lauren was disqualified from the competition prior to the "Heli Heist" challenge. Amber came in as her replacement.
↑ Tommy was medically disqualified from the competition due to suffering a concussion during the "Sea Cave Recon" challenge. He did not vote at nominations, and only the women were required to compete in the Lair as a result.
↑ Aneesa was medically disqualified from the competition after a shoulder injury during the "Minefield" challenge. Because her and Logan were voted in, the elimination only required the men to compete.
↑ Fessy was disqualified from the competition prior to the "Rage Cage" elimination after physically assaulting Josh during a heated altercation. Because him and Esther being voted in, the elimination only required women to compete.
↑ Although Ruby Cell has the most plugs unplugged at the "Satellite Sabotage" mission, Kyle did not properly unplug his plug, so his score did not count. The Emerald Cell tied with the Ruby Cell, but because the Emerald Cell completed the challenge the fastest, they were declared the Agency.
↑ Ashley was not present during nominations following the "Submerged" mission. It was announced that she was disqualified from the competition prior to the "Vault Escape" elimination due to breaking the rules. After being eliminated, Big T was brought back to replace her.

Reunion[]

The two-part reunion was filmed in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and was hosted by entertainment personality Maria Menounos. The contestants who attended the reunion were: Amanda, Amber, Berna, Big T, Devin, Emanuel, Emy, Esther, Fessy, Hughie, Josh, Kaycee, Kyle, Logan, Michele, Nany, Nelson, Tacha, and Tori. Cory and CT attended the reunion via satellite.

The reunion marked the first instance in which contestants were required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine prior to attending.

Trivia[]

Amber Borzotra, Ed Eason, Liv Jawando, and Mark Byron (Big Brother UK 15) all flew out to Croatia to be alternates in case anyone was to be disqualified. Amber and Ed both arrived as replacements, but Liv and Mark were sent home after being unused.

The Challenge Seasons

[1] During the first few days of filming, a cast or crew member tested positive for COVID-19, causing the cast to enter a 10-day quarantine period. The entire cast returned to the game with negative tests, excluding Nam. TJ announced at the Lair that Nam unexpectedly withdrew from the game due to unknown reasons. He was replaced by Ed.

[2] Due to unknown reasons, Lauren was disqualified from the competition prior to the "Heli Heist" challenge. Amber came in as her replacement.

[3] Tommy was medically disqualified from the competition due to suffering a concussion during the "Sea Cave Recon" challenge. He did not vote at nominations, and only the women were required to compete in the Lair as a result.

[4] Aneesa was medically disqualified from the competition after a shoulder injury during the "Minefield" challenge. Because her and Logan were voted in, the elimination only required the men to compete.

[5] Fessy was disqualified from the competition prior to the "Rage Cage" elimination after physically assaulting Josh during a heated altercation. Because him and Esther being voted in, the elimination only required women to compete.

[6] Although Ruby Cell has the most plugs unplugged at the "Satellite Sabotage" mission, Kyle did not properly unplug his plug, so his score did not count. The Emerald Cell tied with the Ruby Cell, but because the Emerald Cell completed the challenge the fastest, they were declared the Agency.

[7] Ashley was not present during nominations following the "Submerged" mission. It was announced that she was disqualified from the competition prior to the "Vault Escape" elimination due to breaking the rules. After being eliminated, Big T was brought back to replace her.
