The Gauntlet is the seventh season of the Real World/Road Rules Challenge. It premiered on September 29, 2003, and concluded with the "Battle Scars - From the Gauntlet to the Inferno" special on January 26, 2004.

This season, MTV throws down the gauntlet on The Challenge series when the cast members from The Real World and Road Rules not only battle each other for prize money, but each team will have to send one of their own teammates into the "Gauntlet," a Gladiator-like competition that will put the loser into permanent exile.
The sleepy, mountain town of Telluride, Colorado gets a rousing wake-up call when 28 standout alumni of The Real World and Road Rules face-off for another season of The Real World/Road Rules Challenge. Host Jonny Moseley returns to moderate the 14 physical and mental Challenges that will determine which show ultimately prevails. From adrenaline-fueled fighter plane dogfights to a stomach-churning ice cream eating contest, the Challenges prove to be an impressive test of wills for Challenge rookies and seasoned veterans.
But team pride isn't the only thing at stake. There's money to be earned! The victorious team (Real World or Road Rules) of each Challenge nabs $10,000 for their team's bank account. Add that to the hefty $150,000 jackpot at the end of the Final Mission, and that's nearly $300,000 up for grabs! With that much cash on the line, things are going to get brutal. And they do! Nobody's playing nice, and the Challengers have the battle wounds to show for it.
But wait! Not everybody is walking away with their pockets full. First they must stay clear of the dreaded "Gauntlet." After every Challenge, both teams select one player, for whatever reason they decide, to battle it out in an additional Gauntlet elimination game. The Gauntlet will test our two competitors in everything from bull-riding to puzzle-solving. The loser must immediately head home, empty-handed. The Gauntlet winner remains in the game, but returns to the team that voted them out. Painful, you say? Indeed! When egos are bruised, resentment boils and tempers flare!
